August 2008 saw the start of an amazing journey for 14, S1 pupils at Denny High school. As the result of a testing audition process, the pupils were selected and signed up to a Curriculum for Excellence at its best in Denny High School. Since that time we have welcomed a further 39 pupils into the Academy through a rigorous process. The results have been amazing.
Denny High are front runners in offering this truly ground breaking, innovative form of education for its new Academy students. This venture has the full backing and support of Stephen Miller, Rector, and is under the direction of Anne McEwan, Course Director and Principal Teacher of Physical Education at the school.
In this programme, pupils have signed up to a comprehensive education package which will unite Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Alternative Techniques, Royal Academy of Dance and Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance Qualifications dance specific examinations, alongside Scottish Qualifications Authority examinations in both dance and other curricular areas.
As part of the Academy, pupils will combine their daily education routine and their passion for dance in a way that truly encourages excellence and engages them in lifelong learning.
The Dance Academy is all about enabling confident individuals who are effective contributors, successful learners and responsible citizens.
