RBS 6 Nations 2017

S3 Computing – Minecraft Aviva Competition Runner’s Up

Mr Mawston had put an advert on the School Intranet and the TV’s in the refectory advertising a Minecraft Competition, so we went to see him to get more details.

The competition allowed us to share in the excitement of the 6 Nations Tournament by taking part in the Minecraft Aviva Competition, which involved building the Aviva Stadium in Dublin where the final of the 6 Nations was due to take place.

This was quite a hard challenge as we had to work out the height, length and scale of the stadium. It really helped develop our problem solving and math skills. We also had to decide what building materials would be best to use for the seats, roof, walls etc.

We submitted our entry prior to the Easter holidays. Mr Mawston then received this email whilst we were off:

Just a quick email to thank you on behalf of all of the team at iTeach for taking part in our recent Minecraft Aviva competition centred around the 6 Nations Tournament. We had hundreds of schools taking part with some incredible talent on display.

Your time and effort is much appreciated and the entry from your school was amazing.

I am so pleased to confirm that your S3 class came 1st Runner up with an amazing reconstruction of the Stadium. The time, effort and detail that went in to this creation was astounding and both pupil and class teacher deserve a huge ‘well done’ !

In recognition of the achievement, we are pleased to award your school with a half day coding workshop led by our team in Scotland. We will be in touch to arrange this for a time that suits the school and provide you with all the detail.

 Best regards”

We are really looking forward to finding out more about our prize in due course.

Please look at our pictures of our stadium below.
